Dr. Hou obtained his PhD degree in Physiology from South China Normal University. After graduation, he became an assistant investigator in Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Then, he went to The Jackson Laboratory, United States, and worked there for three years as a postdoctoral fellow. In 2018, he joined the lab of Prof. Yingjie Zhu, where he focuses on how brain circuits regulate motivated behavior and how these circuits are involved in kinds of neuropsychiatric disorders such as drug addiction and depression.
